Research
at
West Walk Surgery
The RAWWS team is based at West Walk Surgery, Yate, in North Bristol, and consists of our lead GP and Principal Investigator, Dr Sam Davies; Sub-Investigator, Dr Sarah Mitchard; our Research Nurses: Nicola White, Jenny Thomas, Jess Godfrey and Lloyd Morgan; Lab Technicians: Lisa Evans and Denise Vear; and our administrator, Milli Bryant.
Other doctors and nurses are also often involved with individual studies.
Please take a look at our list of studies currently open to recruitment and contact us with any queries.
West Walk Surgery selected by the NIHR and Department of Health and Social Care to become a Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC)
We are very excited to have been chosen to be a Primary Care CRDC. Our centre, called the NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre in Primary Care: South Gloucestershire, will seek to increase research delivery in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Gloucestershire regions, focussing on areas currently under-represented in research, and building on our wide-ranging portfolio of studies. Having established highly effective collaborations with many commercial sponsors over the years, we are well-placed to hit the ground running and develop our centre to offer gold-standard research performance.
Primary Care is an under-utilised setting for research delivery, and it is with great enthusiasm that we now embark on this exciting project, expanding our research team, and offering the chance to take part in commercial research to even more patients.
Our team was presented with the NIHR Award for Collaboration in Research at the CRN West of England 2023 Awards ceremony for our work on the Harmonie study – researching a new antibody treatment for babies to protect them against RSV infection. This drug is now licensed for use in the UK.
We were delighted to be recognised for this and would like to thank all the parents (and babies!) who took part in the study for their time and commitment to this exciting trial.

Chronic Cough
Can a new medication help people with a longstanding cough?
If you have had a cough for more than a year, which is ‘unexplained’ by your doctor, or persists despite treatments, you may be interested to hear more about a study looking at a new treatment for longstanding cough.
